Cyberpunk 2077 Roadmap released alongside explanation of what went wrong

CD Projekt Red released a Cyberpunk 2077 roadmap today that gives us a few details about the game’s future. The video, which accompanied the roadmap, also gave us some concrete details about when players can expect the next Cyberpunk 2077 update to release. It also included a brief statement about what went wrong with the game.

Cyberpunk 2077 Updates Roadmap

Cyberpunk 2077 Roadmap

The roadmap CD Projekt Red released is relatively vague. Aside from the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 1.1 and 1.2 updates, it just blocks the rest of the year into “multiple updates & improvements.” As far as roadmaps go, it’s not really useful for anything other than a very vague overview of the studio’s plans for 2021.

A notable omission from the Cyberpunk 2077 roadmap is paid DLC. CD Projekt Red confirmed long before the game released that it would include paid DLC on the same scale we got with The Witcher 3. The first The Witcher 3 paid DLC, Hearts of Stone, released just four months after launch. If this roadmap is correct, Cyberpunk 2077 won’t get its first paid DLC until over a year after its release.

When will the next Cyberpunk 2077 update release?

According to the video, the Cyberpunk 2077 1.1 update will come “within the next ten days.” The larger 1.2 patch is supposed to follow closely after that. CD Projekt Red hasn’t released any specifics on what we can expect from these updates. They may be targeting bugs, or they may overhaul the AI.

We’d guess that the 1.1 update targets PS4 and Xbox One performance, and 1.2 will possibly improve gameplay systems. However, we won’t know for sure until patch notes drop.

What went wrong with Cyberpunk 2077?

According to CD Projekt Red co-founder Marcin Iwinski, the primary issue with the game was:

“The main culprit was having to constantly improve our in-game streaming system for old-gen consoles. Streaming is responsible for “feeding” the engine with what you see on screen, as well as the game mechanics. Since the city is so packed and the disk bandwidth of old-gen consoles is what it is, this is something that constantly challenged us.”

Iwinski didn’t address the bugs, gameplay, and AI issues found in all versions of the gameplay. Players can find more of his answers in the video above and on the official website.
