Renee Paquette is in no hurry to do something with AEW

From the time her husband Jon Moxley debuted with the company, even before she herself had left WWE, fans were fantasy booking Renee Paquette’s move to AEW.

It’s understandable. She’s a charming personality who proved to be one of the best interviewers in wrestling history during her time with WWE. The possibility of seeing her interacting with new people in a less scripted environment is exciting.

But don’t get too excited. As the former Renee Young explained to Chris Van Vliet, she didn’t leave The E so she could do more wrestling work elsewhere:

“I mean, I don’t know, maybe like I’ll wrestle Brandi and then, like, our kids will wrestle… who knows? [laughs]

“But you know, that’s the thing, too, you look at AEW. and I think everything they’re doing is fantastic. I’m not saying I wouldn’t do something there. I for sure would if the right thing came up, but it’s not the thing that I’m like chasing down. I think my time in WWE was so great, and my time in wrestling has been so great, but I don’t want to have that be the only thing that I do. I don’t want to pigeonhole myself as like just being like ‘the wrestling gurl.’

“I’ll always have that in my wheelhouse and have that be a thing that I lean on, but I think there’s so many other things that I want to do that I think just going right to working in another wrestling company would sort of take away from my whole purpose of wanting to walk away.”

It’s an approach not unlike her friend CM Punk. If Tony Khan makes the right pitch, Renee is receptive. But she’s worked hard to have the flexibility to try other things – like cookbook author, and mother – so she’s gonna go for it.

Makes sense to me.
